Alongside his current role as Sydney FC Technical Director – Youth, Cross has been a FIFA Technical Expert since 2007 and is an AFC-accredited Pro Licence Tutor.
He was Deputy Chairman of the Technical Committee of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) from 2012-2015, and is also one of FIFA’s Strategic Consultants.
Overseeing the education, mentorship, coach development and youth training program with Sydney FC, Cross has been able to transition his global experience to aid in developing the next wave of Sky Blues players since joining the club in late 2014.
Prior to his current role, Cross was Head Coach of the Westfields Sports High School program from 1993-97, and Head Coach of Men’s Football at the NSW Institute of Sport from 1998-2006.
Cross then worked as Football Federation Australia’s (FFA) Head of Coach Education from 2006 to 2012 and Assistant National Technical Director from 2012 to 2014.
During his time in these roles, he played an integral part in developing FFA’s National Football Philosophy, the National Curriculum and the Advanced Coaching Pathway: he is credited with contributing to the improved standard of Hyundai A-League coaches and taking Australian coach development to the professional level.
